Welcoming Jack...

...to the grand world of FOOD! Moving on from creamy milk to brown rice cereal. I've been doing a little research on making my own baby food this go round. I found a neat site called Weelicious. After doing some research I think it's going to be fun and fairly easy, especially with the vitamix (best graduation present ever - thanks mom and dad :). Not sure why I didn't do this with Sawyer! Might have had to do with moving a couple times and being pregnant... Anyway, here are some photos of our baby Jack growing up way too fast. I see sweet potatoes, carrots, pears, plums, green beans, peas, squash, bananas, and much, much more in his near future :)

He gagged and then begged for more...we'll call it a success!

Just one month from today Sawyer will turn 2-years-old!! Where did that year go? Sheesh.

We (read: George) built a compost box and we've already loaded three buckets of composting material into it in less than a week. We've got gardening on our minds. Goal this week: buy a shovel. We like to set attainable goals :)

And if you're looking for a great way to use your kale (or just need some extra iron in your diet), I highly recommend this recipe: Massaged Kale Salad. I've made it twice this past week, delish!

Snapshot Sunday

A day after I wrote the post that Jack was 'planking' he decided to tuck his knees up under and start rocking back and forth. We're going to have a crawler on our hands in no time, ahhhhh!

Cheap, unscented shaving cream and a couple mini dinosaurs and you have yourself a good time!

La Playa

We haven't gotten to the beach nearly as much as we should. We managed to go on September 1st - it was early evening and we didn't plan on getting wet so we didn't wear our swim gear. I don't know what we were thinking. We were all soaked by the end, but it was lots of fun. I think the best part was watching how excited Sawyer was interacting with the waves. We tried to catch minnows that were swimming in the surf...George and I must be getting old and slow...no luck getting a single minnow. Darn.

 Adorable beach bum. Love him.

I'll be sure to keep posting pictures of us at the beach while it gets colder and colder where you live. It's not torture, it's just a way to ensure we have some visitors :)

Walking Wounds

Walks are dangerous, we probably shouldn't go on them anymore. No no no! We took a stroll a couple Sunday's ago and all of a sudden Sawyer tripped and landed on his head. He wasn't even running at the moment. He's a tough guy - less than a minute snuggle and he was good to go again. He got a pretty nice goose egg and some scrapes.

As you can tell, he's very shaken up about it...

5-Month-Old Jack

What up. I'm Jack Cool.

What a sweet boy our Jack is. We love him SO much! He always has a smile for me, whenever I look at him or talk to him, his gummy grin spreads across that adorable chubby face. He loves his brother and grabs onto him every chance he gets. They wrestle (for lack of a better word) although I'm there making sure Sawyer  doesn't get too rough with him, but it seems like Jack is crying less when attacked by Sawyer, and more entertained now, so that's good. Jack is so content and he likes rolling around on the floor and is doing some serious push ups these days. It looks like he's doing the cobra pose in yoga. He also pushes himself backyards and is getting stuck partway under couches and chairs. He is definitely getting more interested in his surroundings. He was sitting on papa's lap at the dining table and worked his flailing little hands up to papa's milk and spilled it everywhere.

He is SO excited to start eating with us...I might start him before he's 6 months, just because he seems extra interested.  He likes to shove anything and everything into his mouth...this includes his feet. He is a light sleeper. He doesn't like loud noises. He is a sympathy crier - when Sawyer cries, he joins in just because it seems like the right thing to do I guess. He loves to be held, but sometimes if he's fussy it means he just wants to lay down and roll around. I'm so thankful Jack is part of our family and pray that we can be great parents for him and his brother! We love you Mr. Jack!
